Had an outstanding meal at Satay last night. My wife and I in from DC, visiting her mother. They've both been to Satay, but it was my first time. It's a very nice, quiet, intimate place. Our server was extremely knowledgeable about the food, and gave us some great suggestions. The mother in law had the Chicken Satay, which was great - the peanut sauce with Sriracha was fantastic. And she loved the pork chop. My wife has to eat gluten free (celiac), is allergic to fish, and eats vegetarian. She asked the chef to make up a gf vegetable plate and received a wonderful veggie plate with Gorgonzola mashed potatoes, carrots, parsnips, and a bunch of other vegetables. She loved it. She and I both had the butternut squash soup, which seems to be their signature soup. It was creamy, a little sweet, and very delicious. I had the sea bass spoons - sea bass, with a bit of red onion, and a really nice sesame oil-based sauce. Excellent. Finally, I had the shrimp & scallop abruzzi. Fresh made black pasta (that morning), with nice big tiger prawns, and scallops. The scallops were perfectly cooked, and the pasta was wonderful. The sauce was slightly spicy, and just perfect for the dish. Sadly, none of us had enough space for dessert, a real bummer because the bread pudding sounded amazing - next time we go I'm definitely getting that! If I lived in the area, we'd eat here often. The meat is all organic and local, and the produce is local. The drink program is interesting, unique, and refreshing. The waitstaff is extremely friendly and knowledgable. The setting really nice, and the background music is in the background, not blaring like many places do today. And the prices are reasonable. Just a really great dining experience! Really looking forward to the next time we visit!!!

Just off I-90, we stopped here for dinner while passing through from Montana to Washington and were so pleasantly surprised! The restaurant has a diverse and interesting menu, American and Asian influences, and a great ambiance with a unique bar and lighting, and a wine cellar with dining tables. We ordered the peanut chicken satay (delicious), lobster wontons, one of the ahi appetizers, and all were good. For dinner we had the ahi salad and tiger prawn salad which we both enjoyed and all dinners come with a homemade bread loaf, served warm and soft, drizzled in a dill butter (superyum). The bread pudding desert, although non traditional, was excellent! The topper to the wonderful meal was the great service. We will dine we again if we are ever in the area.

If you have not eaten at the Satay Bistro, you are missing out. Great atmosphere, impeccable service by Larry, and the sea bass is the best I ever had. Wonderful!

Loved the stuffed chicken sans the salad, bacon was hid in the kale - ruined the experience. Wish the menu did a better job listing the ingredients.

Our 4 some went to dinner and had an amazing meal. I requested that the chefs select my meal for me, and I was blown away. Rob, (the owner) was there and prepared a trio entree (that was not even on the menu) that was beyond fantastic. A combination of rack of lamb, fillet mignon, and sea scallops melted in my mouth. The flavors were unforgettably distinct and the portions were perfect. If that wasn't enough, they also spoiled us with a new cheesecake that they are thinking of adding to their menu. I highly recommend this restaurant, and request Rob to prepare something for you. Their prices are far below what you would expect to pay for a meal like this. Treat yourself to a dinner you will never forget!

Our entree was divine! This would suffice to say what our experience was like. Keep in mind this was a Saturday night and service all around was spot on. We sat exactly at the time we made reservations and our waitress came soon after. Points for that! As first timers our waitress told us many things about the restaurant, they are committed to fresh everything basically; grass-fed meat, organic veggies and fruit, homemade pastas & bread from scratch. Once I heard pasta made in house that's what I wanted to try. Here's the order: Appetizer: Hibachi Tenderloins, with roasted pepper & a ponzu sauce about 8.00. Ok these tasted great minus the fact that they where extremely rare on the inside. Neither the waitress or I clarified to the other how we would have liked that... And I like my meat well done, always (my wife is pregnant so she stopped eating them). But I dealt with it. Entree: Chicken Gorgonzola, with spinach pasta, delicious Ragu sauce, grape tomatoes, and a balsamic redux! Delicious. At this time our homemade baby loaf came out. Ugh that stuff was great! About 20. Dessert: chocolate trio. A little truffle (which was really a cake pop minus the stick), a little cake dipped in ganache, and a small creme brûlée, not bad! About 8. For a total of 36! That's how much we paid TOTAL, my wife and I where STUFFED. I haven't even mentioned the restaurant building itself, let me just say. Close to perfect atmosphere; dark, candlelight tables, you kind of see the chef's working, I think that's cool! If you are in CDA without hesitation I recommend this place.

Everything we had was delicious and the presentation was beautiful. Couple that with fair pricing and good service and you get a winning experience. Will definitely return whenever we are in the area again.

This is a great place. We were our way to Spokane and decided to stop here for dinner. The restaurant doesn't look that big outside but inside its spacious and really well designed. We ate on the patio and glad we did, again it was well thought out too. There's a small section of glass flooring that looks down into the wine cellar. A spiral staircase takes you down to a wine cellar that seats 10 for a private dinner. The service from Larry was great. Our three boys raved and said this is the best restaurant ever. What really impressed me also was the fact that all their food is organic, free of pesticides and they raise their own chicken and the beef is organic too. The food tastes just as good as it looks. I had the sea bass and hubby had the seafood Abruzzi and they were both spot on, add half a lobster tail and you're set. The butternut squash soup was good but the garlic dill butter bread is so yummy. I could eat two loaves myself. The boys had grilled cheese, sliders and chicken fingers. We will definitely be back in future years as we make our annual trip to Seattle.

Server Brittany A+++. Dishes to die for. Different, yet familiar. Atmosphere eclectic bistro. On the fence re Martinis mad with rice wines though.

Wow! This was a truly amazing meal. Everything was cooked to perfection and presented beautifully. I got the rack of lamb and was completely satisfied with my choice. The fondue, bacon wrapped appetizer and bread pudding for desert were also spectacular. On top of that, our waitress Keleen was beyond great and so informative. Explained the whole menu, showed us the wine cellar and was so proud of the restaurant. Overall PERFECT experience.

Had the Christmas 3-course meal: steak and lobster, raw oysters (kumamoto), and beet salad. The price was fair, compared to Sonoma or San Francisco. The grilled steak was PERFECT! You can't even get it this good in Napa, Sonoma, San Francisco, or Bay Area. Rarely have we had steak done this perfectly! Chard and crisp in the outside, juicy and medium rare in the inside. Wine flight was a great pick. The wine list was full of well chosen wine!

The live music tonight (August 1st) was so lovely and would make anything taste fabulous! We always enjoy our dining experiences at Satay, but tonight wasn't as on point as usual...but the music was definitely special.

Hit and miss here. I have had very good meals here. I have also had mediocre. Steak was served very tough, sides cold... No real concern by the staff... On the other hand, I have had great sandwiches here. The Satay was very good.

My husband and I dined at Satay Bistro last night and it was amazing! We both agreed that it was one of the best meals we've had in years. The service was excellent. The atmosphere was perfect for our date night. And the food did not disappoint. We started with the Ahi Tuna Tartare. The presentation was beautiful and the tuna melted in our mouths. For our entrees I had the Ahi Tuna salad and my husband had the Sea Scallops. The scallops were cooked perfectly and the salad was also near perfect. For dessert we split the bread pudding and this is where I have a tiny complaint/suggestion for the staff. The bread pudding was delicious and again presentation was beautiful. The only problem was the the plate and bowl the held the ice cream were both very hot, which caused our ice cream to melt within only a couple minutes. I brought this to the attention of our server and she explained that the plate and bowl had just come out of the dishwasher, that's why they were so hot, and usually the dessert is served on a chilled plate and then she walked away. I feel like she could have taken the level of service a step further and said something like "I'm sorry. Let me fix this for you" and replaced our melted ice cream. The service prior to that was excellent, but I feel like we ended on a bit of a low note. Typically, I would never complain about something like this, but when we're spending over $100 on a meal, I have slightly higher expectations. All in all, my husband and I had a lovely time at Satay Bistro and will definitely return in the near future.

I rarely write reviews because I tend to be more critical than nice. However, Satay Bistro deserves major kudos. My wife and I had dinner there this evening for the first time. Although our reservation (through Yelp) did not make their list because of Yelp's insistence upon email, we were seated in a very nice table near the open kitchen. The wait staff was impeccable -- always there when needed or wanted but not hovering. We had chicken and scallop satay appetizers which were simply amazing. I had a pasta dish (fresh made in house) while my wife had the Sea Bass. All of the food was spectacular. Two things stuck out particularly to us. First, all of the staff KNEW their "stuff". When asked for ingredients, they knew. When one ingredient was a problem, they had a ready suggestion for alternatives. When I glanced at an amazingly presented dessert going by the table, the waitress (not our waitperson) stopped and told me what it was .. with nary a question. She just noticed me looking. Second, the owner is there, in the trenches and walking the floor to be absolutely certain that things are going smoothly. After dinner we were introduced to the head chef -- a young man of clearly great talent. All in all, we had a spectacular time at this restaurant and it will be a permanent "go to" place for a long time to come. I could not recommend it more highly.

My wife and I are spending a couple days in Coeur d'Alene Idaho. We found Satay Bistro on yelp and decided to check it out. It was an amazing experience. The wedge salad that we had was exceptional, the bread was to die for, and their entrées were over-the-top I had to shift selection of panseared salmon and seared scallops over goat cheese mashed potatoes with the local vegetables. My wife had the Gorgonzola pasta with chicken. If you are near this place you must check it out!!

The cheese fondue is awesome. Great service. Ridiculously low prices by our Boston standards. Also one of the few restaurants in town that seems to stay open later than 9:30 pm.

  • Mike H.

Our first visit was a year ago, they were amazing! We're back one full year later and the food is just as amazing. I don't like Brie, or really cheese for that matter, but HOLY MOUSE CRACK! That Brie was more like candy. The fruit mixes and crackers, just to die for. Service is always amazing and the prices are so cheap compared to the value. Highly recommended

We booked the bar area of Satay Bistro for the private 30th birthday of my daughter who was here with her husband visiting from London. We booked the venue for a few days after Christmas and although the weather was atrocious, had almost all thirty guests keep the date. Brittany and Alex, the bartender, were excellent in service and the chef helped us to firm up the beautiful menu and even printed it on lovely place cards for the occasion. We ordered some lobster wanton plates to pass around and had two gorgeous cheese and fruit platters for appetizers. Brittany explained that the chef had shopped that day for a really special cheese selection that was local and organic. The menu was a choice of the Sea Bass that we have had on several visits, the wonderful Filet Mignon, and the satisfying Pork Ribeye. Everyone made their selections and the service was seamless, with salad choices, entrees, and then dessert of the famous coconut cake, coming out perfectly prepared and to rave reviews. We could not have asked for a better meal, venue, or atmosphere. The party felt intimate and very special. I will celebrate my own birthday there soon and expect the same wonderful service and food. Bravo!

Yes this deserves a five star! Flavor, Freshness, Presentation, Service! We were looking for some "good food" Some times hard to find in a resort town. We were not let down. Yelp review was right on, and our host has eaten there several times. We had 2 different beers on tap. Excellent! Lobster wontons The Brie in a wrap, with grapes, pears and a sweet sauce and crackers. Would be very good for desert, but we mowed it down. The small wedges. The dill in the blue cheese, a very nice touch. A chicken Gorgonzola - so rich you don't need much Blueberry medallions of beef- a great contrast of sweet and savory The sea bass- perfectly cooked on greens and potatoes A surf and turf special And the bread pudding to go:))) We are still talking about what a great dinner. Thank you!

My husband and I can't thank the staff at Satay enough for delivering a truly wonderful dining experience. Tonight was a very special occasion, as we were celebrating our first wedding anniversary. The restaurant is an older, completely restored building in our area, which lends to it's truly unique and romantic atmosphere. Rob, the owner and our server, Heather, went above and beyond to ensure that our night was just perfect; the service truly exceeded our expectations. More than that, the food was absolutely mouth watering and bursting with flavor. We chose Chilean sea bass and the filet mignon, and both melted in our mouths. Heather was very knowledgeable about all the ingredients and even pointed out that Rob, the owner takes great care in selecting local farm fresh beef and the vegetables served there were organic. Couldn't ask for a better menu with their prices in CDA. We will definitely be back soon and hope to make Satay a tradition for our future anniversaries. If you haven't tried them yet, you're missing out!

Omg this place is so amazing in every way. The service was perfect! The good was delightful and the atmosphere was more then amazing! This is by far the best place all around in Coeur d Alene to wine and done at. There wine section Is huge and great choices. They also have a private wine tasting room down stairs that is beautiful and tasteful. The cheese and fruit platter was also amazing. I recommend this wine bistro to everyone and specially and nice night out or a date! I absolutely love this place.

We love this restaurant. We love the small, cozy atmosphere. It's a great date night spot or a great spot to go with another couple. The food and service is almost outstanding. The presentation is unique and the taste is fresh and seasonal. The staff is always friendly and kind.

Wonderful place to eat. Service is personable and excellent. Food was delicious, though next time I think I will have wine, appetizers and dessert. Salad was a pear gorgonzola that was delicious; squash soup was delicious!! Will not wait so long to eat there next time. We sat outside and that was fun.

This restaurant is AMAZING!!! Everything was perfect about it! - The owner, the very nice and friendly staff, the food, and the place itself. My husband and I were here for Valentine's dinner. We're not from the area, but someone told us this is a good place except they don't take reservations. Well we came there and turns out we did need a reservation. The owner, Rob, was very nice and found us an opening for a slightly later time. We really didn't mind coming back just a bit later and very glad we did! Our experience there was just so great! I had the sea bass, and I can honestly say it was the best I've ever tried! So tender, it was just melting in my mouth! Another thing I'd recommend is the Raspberry Saketini. That thing was SOOO good! And the place was decorated very nicely for Valentine's Day! Very pretty. Good job, Rob!

I thought about waxing on about how fantastic our meal was, with details. However, I'll just say it was phenomenal, from the food to the service. I had the thick cut pork chop and the entire plate tasted as good as it looked, probably even better (and that's saying something). There are times when I eat out and think, "Oh, I could have just made this at home." Not here. I quickly realized eating this meal that this was the great dividing line between an enthusiastic home cook and a great chef. Our server was as good as you could hope for (I wish I could remember her name). Something struck me about her attitude. She wasn't perky, in an annoying, fake way. Rather, she was excited, like she couldn't wait to put the food in front of us to experience our reactions. I don't recall seeing that before in a server and it was refreshing. She literally clapped when we said it was our first time there. My only regret...no room for the bread pudding. Next time!

Filet was awesome. Do yourself a favor and try the scallops also. They are incredible. The server was entertaining and the owner was present and very approachable. You couldn't ask for a better experience. I will be back, but this time we will make reservations.

We were in town for Monday night looking for new place to enjoy in the winter months. Well we found a gem great food from the satay to soup, salad and outstanding fish Larry our sever was top-notch, very knowledgeable about the dishes. The Satay Bistro, has been driven by many times in the Past now we will be stopping to have dinner again. Update we dined here again and the experience was outstanding

My husband, daughter, and I just tried this place for the very first time. It really is all that these reviews say it is, and more! Our waitress was knowledgable, and friendly, and very attentive. My husband had this incredible stuffed pork chop- which he didn't really seem to excited about until it arrived, and it was so much better than he expected! My daughter and I had the salmon, which was perfect, and the organic vegetables...OH MY, they are incredible! The mashed potatoes with whipped goat cheese- heavenly. The portions were big and we, sadly, were so full we didn't even have room for dessert. Next time, i'll save room! We live right by Hay J's, which is nice, but Satay blows Hay J's away with better service & pricing. I also like the atmosphere, building, and wine list better. I can't finish without saying one more thing: the bread! My goodness this little loaf of bread with the herbed butter....I can't wait to come back. Great experience!

First time trying this place I was very impressed. Me and my wife had a great date night away from the kids. The atmosphere was great and I probably could have eaten everything on the menu if I had the money. My wife on the way home called her friend about it..words getting around town about this gem!

This was one of the best experiences in dining I've ever had. The service was beyond amazing. The waitress was probably the best I have ever encountered. She was great. She gave us excellent recommendations and personal input from the wine to dessert. The food was beyond amazing and my daughter and I were not disappointed with any of our choices. The flavors were outstanding and continued to evolve and grow. We will be going back.

  • Lourie D.

We were very disappointed in the price we paid for the amount of food we received! The entree looked more like a portion of a appetizer. It looked like they literally took one scallop and cut it into four pieces!! Chicken was dry. We will not be returning unfortunately:(

    (1)
  • Stephen K.

The chicken satay appetizer had an addictively delicious peanut sauce, the Asian salad with grilled tiger prawns was awesome (the mango was perfectly ripe), the homemade pesto pasta was fantastic, and the bread pudding dessert was one of the best I've ever had (including multiple versions of it from New Orleans). My waitress Heather was about as friendly and helpful as I've ever experienced. The setting was high class and romantic (despite what it looks like from the outside), and the price was right - $100 for 2 people for five courses and 3 drinks. Hard to imagine a better dining experience, unless you had a view of the lake.

My boyfriend and I went here on our first trip to Coeur d'Alene and the service and food was beyond excellent. Our server was a young lady who could tell you everything and more about the menu. We were shocked by how knowledgeable she was about the menu and we ended up getting something that wasn't even on the menu because it sounded so good by just the way she described it. The food tasted like something you'd expect at a five star restaurant and even when I was full I wanted more. I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for exceptional service with to die for food. I will definitely be coming here in the future and telling my friends about it.

Satay kicks it up a notch again. Great wine, great appetizers, great servers, great meal. Can't just go here for a quick bite, this takes time. Tonight, M-100 and started with rumaki and lobster wontons, then tried their blueberry bourbon steak. It was great! The waitress was awesome. The night was a success!

I love this place. The food is good. A couple choices on the menu that usually tempt me. We've been here several times, and always a great experience. If you are a bread fan, omg, the bread is to die for. We've ordered the baked brie and it was so good. For dinner or lunch, I usually get the ahi tuna salad and love it. My husband has ordered the filet mignon. A very tender and flavorful steak! The presentation is beautiful and we've always had great service. Their prices are fair. It's been awhile since we've gone for dinner, but it's a good one for special occasions.

We used Satay for my son's wedding reception,July 25. Rob was amazing to work with and provided helpful information on other aspects of the wedding. The food was the best I had ever had at a wedding. The servers were top notch. I highly recommend Rob and his group for catering and the bistro for dining. We also have been to the Bistro and the food and wine selection is phenomenal!

Fabulous! Great service, very nice dining room, excellent food. I had the special- surf and turf, sweety had the bolognese tagliete(sp?) I agree with a previous reviewer, the kitchen is using a bit more salt than i prefer. The bread pudding was tasty and the coffee was excellent. One appetizer, 2 drinks, 2 entrees and one dessert + tip =$100. Our server made a point of telling us (twice) that food+wine mag was awarding satay their best restaurant in idaho award. It was a wonderful experience

Loved our experience at Satay Bistro! My boss came to town and my husband and I needed to pick a location to take him. We tried Satay and were very happy. The food was great, the staff was super friendly and the atmosphere was entertaining. At the end of our visit, our waiter offered to give us a tour of the place which included history of the building and a trip into the unique wine cellar. I would definitely recommend trying this restaurant....

On a 1-10 Scale*: Food = 9 | Service = 10 | Ambiance = 6 * 5 = so-so, i.e. neither good nor bad. In Ten Words: Grass-fed beef, organic veggies, in-house everything makes for excellent meals! FOOD: Had the 5-ounce filet mignon lunch entrée, which was dressed in a chimichurri sauce and accompanied with roasted veggies and goat cheese mashed potatoes. Beef was cooked exactly medium-rare as requested, was melt-in-your-mouth tender, and super flavorful. Even better than cuts I've had at high-end restaurants like Morton's and Fleming's. SERVICE: The server was very warm, welcoming, well informed about the restaurant and the food, and attentive. I'd give six stars if I could! AMBIANCE: On the outside, it looks like a somewhat dumpy, casual mom-and-pop shop. The decor inside is interesting -- to put it politely -- and there's a wine cellar of sorts downstairs. At the very least, it's clean, which is (personally) key. I would definitely revisit this restaurant, but not because it's the best looking restaurant I've been to. VALUE: Don't let the unassuming exterior fool you; this place is a gem! If I ever find myself in Coeur d'Alene again, I would come back, even if the menu items went up a couple dollars.

First things first- you MUST get the bread pudding. Our server described it perfectly: "heavenly" Okay- so for the review of the restaurant. The atmosphere is awesome! We went here for date night and it was perfect and special but also relaxing and fun. We sat on the beautiful patio next to a fire listening to live soul music. The romance meter was at an all time high. We had the cheese fondue to start and it was amazing! Perfect appetizer to share for 2. It was light and delicious but we didn't feel completely stuffed before the first course. I ordered the seabass and hubs had the stuffed chicken. Both were delicious! Everything at Satay is made from scratch and the flavors are so unique. Definitely a culinary experience! Again- we ended with the bread pudding and it was the best decision I've made in a while. You will not regret ordering it! Overall- Satay is a great restaurant with delicious food, amazingly friendly staff, and a cool setting that is perfect for any occasion. Thank you Satay!

This is a very welcoming place! Our server (Heather) was exceptional. She helped us on all aspects of the food and drink. And when it came time for dessert didn't pressure us to order (very cool especially when you're full). My wife had the duck (phenomenal) and I had the salmon special (see pics) which were awesome! The homemade bread with garlic/dill sauce came with the meal and was very yummy! We'll be back!!

Excellent wine and service, the owner should be applauded for having sufficient wait staff which is a rarity in CdA. The food is excellent even though I would like to see a greater variety, but they do have daily specials. Having lived in CdA for14 years and a visitor for 17 I would rate this far and away better than CdA only 5 star dining facility, I think that AAA needs to visit this location. The only drawbaack to the faciliry is the view of 4th street. It also offers late night dining which again is unusual in CdA.

We went to Satay for apps and vino. As always great service. The chicken and shrimp satay were delicious the sauce that came with them both were amazing. I always look forward to going back. The only thing that bums me out they no longer have live music.

Outstanding at every level! Take some time to walk around this small restaurant and note all the detail put in place. The wine bottles over the bar are all super glued together and are nice touch. The drift wood divider between the dining room and bar area. The window in the floor that shows off the wine cellar. And, go down the spiral stair case to view the cellar where there's also an 8-person table you can book in advance. Marvelous! The food? The best! We went over the top and shared a lot of appetizers and then ordered main courses and even desserts. The wait staff are very professional and friendly/fun. They know the bargain wines to order also so trust their judgement. I had the sea bass and it was incredibly presented and tasty and cooked to perfection. I love when my white fish is flaky! It can be a little on the warm side in this restaurant so keep that in mind when deciding what to wear to dinner. Enjoy!

Unexpected phenomenal dining in Coeur d'Alene. I searched Yelp to find a place for dinner. We were in town to visit our daughter who is in college here. The decor is very well done. The staff is welcoming and well trained in serving their customers. Our server, Michelle was FABULOUS! The food: Beautiful presentation and fabulous flavors. We had the Sea Bass, the Prawns, the Stuffed Chicken & the Surf & Turf at our table. Nothing disappointed!! SO great!

My wife and I ate here twice during our stay in CDA. The food and decor is top notch, and the bread is to die for. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because when she wiped our table she used a really smelly cloth and left the table wet and it was really quite gross to smell before our meal. That said it only happened once and I would still highy recommend Satay Bistro

I'm on a work trip and had a few hours between commitments, so came in to see if I could hang out and work during lunch into the early afternoon. No Problem! They have outlets on the walls! Don't let the location scare you...sort of right off I-90, around chain restaurants and the roads can be busy and fast, but this is worth it. There isn't a surface that hasn't been redone. Near the entrance you can look through the floor into the wine cellar. Be careful on the spiral staircase and at the little ledge as you go downstairs. Also, the glass door into the wine cellar proper can surprise you...Brittany gave me a tour! The menu is very tempting, and I decided on the Chicken Gorgonzola salad. Perfect! It was rather petite, but much better than the huge salads some places give you...the ones where you have to keep eating or you won't finish it before lunch hour is over...for those of us who can't put our forks down... According to Brittany, the ingredients are as local and in-season as possible. Good selection of wines. Would like to try the saki menu sometime, but not today. The outdoor seating looks very nice, but I stayed in the area of the bar, which does have one TV. Definitely a great find. One of those hidden gems. Might be coming back for dinner...

My fiance' and I chose this restaurant as our restaurant week pick as neither of us had tried. All I can say is wow. It is one of those meals I will remember for a long time. Everything, and I mean everything was amazing. The filet mignon was the best I had in ages. The bread pudding for dessert was easily the best I ever had. My fiance' had the sea bass and it was equally amazing. The restaurant itself is small, but very nice with great touches all over, including the bathroom. Easily, one of the top 3 meals I've ever had in a restaurant. I dislike spending big $$$$ on food, but I would not hesitate to go back to Satay. I have recommended it to several people already and hope they try it as well.

We came here for restaurant week. I had the sea bass and he had the filet. Both entrees were to die for! The sea bass was tender, well seasoned, and a very hearty portion at that. Our server explained the menu is comprised of fresh, house-made ingredients and gave excellent wine recommendations to compliment our entrees. We were an hour early for our reservation, but they humbly found early seating for us. I highly recommend this restaurant for service, food, and overall experience.

EXCELLENT! Went for lunch and was blown away. Not enough superlatives for the food and service.

We went to Satay during restaurant week - so it was very busy. That didn't impact our service though. We had a limited menu but the choices were great - I had the 10oz steak (much bigger than 10 oz) and my wife had the Fish. Both were prepared as requested - I had a mountain of gratin potatoes. I will always take quality over quanitity of food - this place provides both. With effortless service - so great for all. I didn't spend much time on the bar - but it was nice with lots of seating (full bar). Did have a quick tour of the intimate wine cellar and wouldn't mind hosting a group dinner there. We look forward to the next visit and thank the Rest Week activity for putting them on our radar.

We were driving over from the Seattle area, when I found this wonderful place on Yelp. The reviews were very good, so I called for a reservation since it was a Saturday night. Christa was very helpful. She wanted to know if our reservation was for a special occasion. I replied that we were coming into town from the Seattle area. She asked whether we needed directions and if we had any special requests. She could not have been more helpful and friendly. The outside of the bistro is nicely done, but is a bit deceiving compared to the inside which has been beautifully designed. In a former life this place was a bar The only reason we knew it was a bar was because Larry, our waiter, told us. Larry was great! The bistro has a very eclectic menu. My husband I enjoyed lobster wontons that came with a citrus dipping sauce. I ordered a lettuce wedge salad that came with a delicious dill blue cheese dressing. I also ordered the special pork medallions with kale and fingerling potatoes with a wonderfully aromatic and spicy sauce. My husband chose the pork Bolognese. The food was phenomenal. Larry, made some excellent wine recommendations and told us the story of the bistro. He introduced us to the owner and showed us the wine cellar which was also beautifully done. He was on staff during the remodel and when it first opened. He was very proud and his great service showed it. The food, the service, the décor. We couldn't have asked for a better experience. Don't miss this place if you're in the area. We're going back for dessert later in the week since we were to full to have it after dinner. Great place, great food, great service, Don't miss it.

My husband and I wanted to go out to dinner with a friend visiting from out of town. We were taking our 18 month old along so I called ahead to see if they had seating that would accommodate a child. (we never assume a child is welcome in a dining establishment and would rather give them the option of telling us they are full or can't meet our needs than to show up and be "stroller blocked") They said they did, so we went. Once we arrived they gave us a great table (not the typical "stuff the baby in the corner" seat). We were served our appetizer very quickly too, which is great for keeping the baby happy. As our meals arrived the cup of milk I had brought along for the baby was empty. I asked the server if they had whole milk. He went to the kitchen to check, nope, only 2%. I told him that would be perfectly fine and he took the cup to the kitchen to rinse and fill it. He came back a few moments later to apologize for the wait but the manager had run to the store to get us the whole milk we wanted!! The food was incredible, the service was some of the best I've ever had and all in all, months later no restaurant has come close to matching that experience. So....thanks so much to Satay Bistro for being awesome!

Just finished eating here and I am currently sitting in a car on my back to Seattle after eating at the awkward time of 5pm. Two separate friends recommended eating here that are from Coeur d' Alene, so we expected good food. However, we didn't expect such a nice restaurant directly off I-90 on 4th. Realizing this was not a quick stop in place we had to readjust our thinking. Our server, Michelle, was a real gem and recommended the special which was halibut served over potatoes and vegetables with a lime Siracha sauce which my husband had, I ordered the pesto pasta and we each had a small salad and a shared beef and Gorgonzola satay. We ate outside on the patio which was lovely on a warm evening. These are our reflections: Negative: -location...noisy traffic on patio, next to fast food joints. -price...$70 for above meal excluding tip and no alcohol. Positive: -staff was friendly and efficient (everyone!) -location-convenient -food was delicious and plated beautifully. -wine list was impressive -dessert list was impressive. -warm loaf of bread served in a bath of butter, dill, and parsley:amazing. -chilled salad fork and chilled salad plates. -water, iced tea and soda kept filled during entire meal. -BATHROOMS!!!! OMG....cascading water in sinks, huge private room ADA accessible with room for three helpers, clean and opulent. Seattle has many fine dining establishments, but all the bathrooms don't compare. Definitely planning on a return visit with more time. Would love to go with an excuse to have cocktails and appetizers through coffee and dessert. If this place had a view or was by the lake it would be unrivaled. However, it is unique and delicious so perhaps this little gem will do better just where it is and we will be able to get in when we want!

Disappointing. We have eaten here twice. Great ambience. Service is very good. Food misses the mark. Too much salt. Spices imbalanced.

Very good. We had the filet and a Gorgonzola chicken dish. The filet was great. The chicken/pasta dish was a bit salty. The best part of the meal was the soup and bread, we thought. Great butternut squash soup and delicious bread covered in a butter topping of some sort. Over all great meal, but also expensive. With two entrees and dessert the bill was ~60 not including tip and with no alcohol. Location doesn't look like anything special from the outside, and the neighborhood isn't upscale or anything, but the inside was nice (although they did seat six at a booth that would have been better for four). Service was good. So, overall, the very good meal met expectations for the expensive price, earning it four stars in my opinion.

Just an update to my previous review. I went there a couple Sundays ago, and I was told that they are no longer serving brunch.

Amazing food, great ambiance and attentive service...what more can you ask for?! We had the strawberry salad, lobster wontons and both enjoyed the filets. They have amazing cocktails...I had a saki-tini called raspberry frost, so yummy! They also give you this delicious garlic bread loaf and if you don't stop them, they will keep bringing you more bread. Must stop when in CDA!

We took my mom to Satay Bistro for Mother's Day Brunch. We were quite happy with the selection of food at the special brunch buffet. The food options were unique and fresh: crepes to order, fresh berries and fruit, shrimp, scallops, chocolate covered strawberries, caesar salad - to name a few items. We walked away full, but feeling light and healthy. We'll certainly return.

Very delicious. The flavors were complex and blended well together. I ordered the gorgonzola filet satay and the gorgonzola crumbles were fresh off the block. The side salad with truffle dressing still has me thinking about it one week later, it was that good. I also got the apple pork chops with goat cheese whipped potatoes. O-M-G! The pork tasted like it was infused with apple and the goat cheese whip was so creamy and flavorful. My husband and I shared the bread pudding which was perfectly dense and moist and deliciously warm with some very frozen vanilla ice cream on the side. They also give you a golden loaf of bread smothered with dill garlic butter as an appetizer. It was so delicious my husband and I are already planning our next visit there less than 2 weeks after the first. Don't miss this one!

This was one of my favorite dining experiences, hands down. The environment is eclectic, but very intimate. The ambiance was just perfect. We did it up with a couple of appetizers, soup, filet mignon (him) and the chicken Gorgonzola with house made spinach pasta, the coconut cake and Chambord -injected strawberries for dessert, and a bottle of wine. The wine list and the menu are both impressive, so much so that we've decided to make the 3.5 hour drive back in a few weeks to further explore the menu. Yes, folks, it's THAT good. The attention to detail, both in presentation and complexity of taste is also impressive. The hostess, the waitstaff (even the other waiters that weren't working on our table) were so welcoming. Both the owner and cook came to check on us. We were shocked when we realized we had been there for 2.5 hours, but it was so enjoyable that we hardly noticed. I felt like we had been treated as if we were celebrities, and really, isn't that what the fine dining experience is all about? Do yourself a favor and skip the overrated downtown restaurants and seek out this little gem. You will NOT be disappointed.

I keep going back and am looking forward to visiting again. The food is flavorful, interesting, well-presented, and very reasonably priced (not cheap, but very reasonable for the high quality food and service). I have been here to celebrate business occasions, birthdays, and just for fun. The Rumaki is great, featuring water chestnuts wrapped in bacon, mmm! Also, the butternut squash soup has a wonderfully balanced flavor. This is easily the best food in Coeur d'Alene.

We were on a lengthy road trip and tired of the usual quick meal places so took a chance on Satay Bistro, next to our motel. What a surprising gem of a place in an area of the city where you wouldn't expect to find much! Everything about it was fun and upbeat, and the food was absolutely delicious. The only negative note -- so I'll get this over with quickly and move on to the food -- was our server, who was perky and smiling, but seemed bored with us as she kept looking around while we asked her a few questions about the menu. The wait staff was young and fun, all dressed in black in keeping with the warm, dark ambience of the restaurant. As for the food -- yum plus! We started with the table bread, a warm loaf covered in what one server described as "our butter-dill-butter-pesto-garlic-butter sauce". Heavenly! We weren't especially hungry, so skipped the steaks and heavier menu items for a cheese fondue plate and a house dinner salad. The fondue was $16 and was more than the two of us could eat. It was light and dippable, and we had a choice of grapes, sweet potatoes, broccoli, bread cubes, and strawberries. For $4.95, the house salad was a good size and contained more ingredients than one normally finds. The pomegranate poppy seed dressing was a delicious choice. There was live music from an unusual instrument. A very talented guy was playing a guitar with a bow, making it sound like a sitar. The result was a pleasant background. A number of people asked to be seated near the musician, they were so fascinated with what he was doing. As servers walked by, we looked at the entrees they carried. Everything looked delicious and was presented well. I wished this restaurant was closer to home. We'd go back there many times.

Do not get the tuna tartar. With that being said, the atmosphere was lovely and the service excellent. We were only having drinks and a couple apps and the waiter brought out some ridiculous bread soaked in garlic butter. So good, but so rich. The tuna tartar was NOT good, it had an odor and tasted bland and was a bit chewy. The portion of tuna was very small on top of a pile of red onions, tomato and avocado. The presentation was dramatic, but the flavor, not so much. There was a small salad accompanying the tuna which was very good, but a little too heavily dressed. The second app we had was the fruit and cheese plate, which was delish, but no actual cooking was involved. I do look forward to returning for dinner. This place is well worth a second chance.

My girlfriend and I went there one evening...bottle of great wine, great meal followed by a (shared) incredible desert. Small dimly lighted with an interesting interior design. The wine cellar is decent 0 and a "must visit" as it is down a spiral stair under the dining room. Slightly unorthodox location - but it works. We will definitely be back. I highly recommend it!

Decor and Atmosphere: The decor and setting are nice, however I could have done without the elevator jazz. Food: My mother and I ordered two satays and one tapas. She has a dairy allergy so there were quite a few items that were off limits for us. We ordered the shrimp satay, the scallop satay, and the ahi tuna tartare tapas. The shrimp was over cooked and the sauce was okay. The scallops were cooked well but the flavor wasn't anything great. The ahi was the worst of the three which was sad because tuna tartare is my favorite. It was a layered dish with tomatoes on the bottom, red onions and avocado in the middle (some of the avocado was clearly bad) and the tuna on top. There was no flavor to the tuna dish. We discovered if you ate the tuna with the spinach and dressing it gave it a nice flavor. Tuna tartare is good enough to stand on it's own and doesn't need to be masked by the extras, but it does need to be flavored. Perhaps I'm spoiled living in San Francisco and I know what it can and should taste like. I got a glass of the New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc which was good but wasn't as crisp and fruit forward as I know those wines are famous for. Service: The waitress didn't seem to know the menu that well and was happy to confirm which items were dairy free. She was pleasant and attentive. I was however concerned by her frequent coughing. All in all it was $40 pre-tip and we were still hungry but didn't want to try anything else considering how poor to mediocre the three dishes we had were. So we went to the resort and had awesome calamari with three tasty dips. We will not be going back.

Having driven past this place a number of times & telling myself I should try it, I finally did. It was early Monday about 3:30pm so the place was quiet except for folks setting up. Brittney (I hope that's correct) greeted me & I decided that the lounge would suit my dining pleasure. When I explained I was a newbie Brittney afforded me the history of the restaurant, an extensive rundown of the menu items (made from scratch), & her history working there. When it came time to order she recommended the beef but I felt more like seafood even if it was a Monday. I selected the Seafood Abruzzi - black prawns, sea scallops, black fettuccine, plum tomato sauce. Again Brittney recommended a white wine she thought would compliment this selection & after discussing a few other choices I decided to go with her recommendation. Every thing was spot on with just a hint of heat in the sauce which I truly enjoy. I will be back again.

Love this place! I have tried almost everything on the menu and for the prices, under $20 for a beautiful ten ounce filet mingnon, the food never disappoints. They have these incredible potatoes that are whipped to perfection and given some extra love with just the right touch of goat cheese. Ask for the shitake demi glace if you want to kick em up an extra notch. Their stuffed chicken and sea bass come with an incredible smoked tomato vinagrette that makes me want to lick my plate clean. I am currently having a love affair with the truffle oil dressing on the chicken gorgonzola salad, which also is available in a side salad size. It is loaded with pine nuts, gorgonzola and slivered pears. Yum! If you haven't been in yet, trying a bunch of the smaller plates will give you a feel for the intense flavors Satay has to offer. I highly recommend the gorgonzola filet satay. Strips of filet mignon grilled and served with that killer demi glace. The red chili sea scallops are nice and bright with a mango salsa. I don't know what this Megan lady is talking about but I order the tuna tartar almost every time I go and it is perfect. The wasabi whip and soy reduction work beautifully as a food glue between the tartar and crackers. Coeur d'Alene needed a restaurant of this caliber especially in that part of town! The atmosphere is warm, the food will knock your socks off and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I am also amazed that the owner, Rob Elder, is often there and talking with each guest, making sure the experience is flawless. Satay is a must for brunch, lunch, dinner or just drinks and apps!
